We want to provide you with an update on how we at Colonial Adjustment, Inc. are addressing the challenges of the coronavirus (COVID-19) as the illness continues to impact us all.
Our primary concern is for the health and safety of our Colonial family – our clients and their insureds, and our team and colleagues. For that reason, we have put in place several protocols intended to keep our staff and the community safe, while still allowing our adjusters to continue to serve our clients. Company travel has been restricted to the states that we service, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, and our staff is working remotely from their homes. We are grateful that technology allows us to practice safe social distancing, and remain fully functional as a company. We believe our safety and screening procedures will be seamless to our clients as you should not experience any lack of services or support from Colonial.
Rest assured we are taking all the necessary precautions and implementing best practices as developed by the State and Federal Centers for Disease Control. We will continue to update you as necessary.
Our company motto is “family first”, and we believe that the best way to face this challenge is by working together, with thought and care for each other. Stay well.

Colonial staff recently enjoyed some good competitive fun at our Annual BBQ and Bean Bag Tournament last week. We took advantage of the Maine summer weather to gather and relax together in our yard outside company headquarters in South Portland. Colonial teams duked it out at the bean bag toss boards, while enjoying some local BBQ fare. Congratulations to this year’s champions – John Meyer and Barclay Scheick!
James brings 20 years of experience in the insurance industry to our Property Adjusting Division. He has been a property adjuster for over four years, having worked at both a large insurance carrier and a national independent adjusting firm prior to joining Colonial. He began his career working for a mitigation firm in Florida during the Hurricane Floyd cleanup in 1999, and continued to work for mitigation companies, serving as a project manager and estimator. His well-rounded industry expertise and knowledge is a tremendous asset to our team.
James will primarily assist in our Southern Maine-York county and southern New Hampshire territories. He is licensed in Maine and New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island and Connecticut.
James and his wife, Evelyn, live in South Berwick, Maine, and have two young daughters. They enjoy music as a family, and their eldest girl is a budding local musical theatre performer.
Please join us in welcoming James to the Colonial family!
A Note from CEO/President, Scott Kidder:
Today marks a very special day here at Colonial Adjustment, Inc. – 45 years ago, on September 3, 1974, my father opened Colonial Adjustment. I’m so appreciative of his qualities of entrepreneurship and tenacity that led him to open and grow his own business, and to share that business with me and my family. My father taught me the importance of building relationships, fostering trust by keeping your word, and treating everyone like family. Our amazing team of dedicated employees help me to continue these values today, and I’m proud to be carrying his legacy on into the future!
Colonial recently sponsored a team for The Casco Bay Swing golf tournament supporting the Young Life Casco Bay program. Young Life Casco Bay helps middle and high school age youth grow in faith, while learning about culture, leadership, and building healthy relationships. Supporting community and families is an essential part of our values here at Colonial, and this program serves more than 11,000 young people annually in the Greater Portland area. We donated $560 for the event, and our team members included (left to right): Anne Latendresse, Phaedra Gallant, Ellen Bois, and Jennifer Scanlon.
