We are looking for a full-time, licensed, and experienced Property Field Adjuster to join our Vermont Team.  This position handles both residential and commercial property claims, working in the field and from a residential office base. Delivering exceptional customer service in a prompt and effective manner is of highest priority at Colonial in accordance with our motto, Proven expertise you can count on.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Investigate and evaluate property and general liability property damage insurance claims.
  • Review and apply client-specific claim guidelines, insurance policies and endorsements.
  • Inspect property for physical damage and summarize findings accurately and timely.
  • Execute thorough claim investigations including scene inspections, recorded statements, secure relative documentation, and other pertinent information.
  • Produce a professional adjusting report, providing your findings and recommendation for claim settlement.
  • Adjust claims of all levels, including personal property claims involving low to moderate value, structure claims involving moderate to high dollar value and severity, Section II liability claims involving lower severity physical damage, and Additional Living Expense (ALE) claims involving moderate dollar value.
  • Communicate and work effectively with other team members, management, clients, policy holders and various other partners to facilitate claims resolution within required timeframe guidelines.
  • Perform necessary claim scheduling, investigation, and assessment outside of normal business hours as on-call schedule requires.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Support workload surges and/or Catastrophe operations as needed to include working extra hours during designated CATs.
  • Serve as a resource to less experienced team members on escalated issues of a routine nature.
  • Maintain professional and technical insurance industry knowledge through continuing education.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ year experience handling dwelling claims
  • Hold  and maintain required licenses
  • Intermediate knowledge of property construction
  • Proficiency in Xactimate and Xactanalysis
  • Strong negotiation,  investigative, and communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of property insurance policies and endorsements
  • Ability to travel and/or work catastrophe duty when needed within three states
  • (ME, NH & VT)
  • Basic Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer)
  • Must have valid Driver’s License, a clean driving record, and a clean and presentable vehicle for business use

This position requires physical exertion in the field to complete investigations and assessments. Qualified individuals should be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds (lifting a ladder on/off vehicle); ability to climb ladders and traverse roofs; ability to crouch and stoop to inspect confined spaces and access crawl spaces.

Qualified candidates ONLY. Individuals without prior claim processing and estimating experience will not be considered. Experience with recorded statements and scene diagrams as well as industry designations such as CPU, AIC, SCLA is a plus. Compensation commensurate with experience.
